For AML/CTF practitioners, connecting the dots between money and their beneficial owners has always been both a priority and a frustrating challenge. Multiple interpretations of the European Directive within different jurisdictions haven’t helped, keeping the door open for criminals to play regulatory arbitrage within the EU. Forthcoming EU Regulation hopes to harmonise application of AML/CTF requirements and close any loopholes.
