The Haenyeo sea women exhibition

Paperjam.lu

Discover the daily lives of the Haenyeo women, who live on the volcanic island of Jeju off the coast of South Korea, in a new exhibition of paintings by Luxembourg-based Blanesth (Blanca Esther Beck).

This group of women follow a traditional way of life, dictated by the sea, making a living by diving unassisted to depths of 10 to 20 metres to collect octopus, abalone and seaweed.

Blanesth began painting in Spain where she held her first exhibition in 1989. Her works have been exhibited in a number of cities in Spain as well as in Portugal, Germany and Luxembourg. Blanesth lives and works in Luxembourg and Germany.
