German musician Konstantin Gropper has been making sublime pop music for a decade now under the name Get Well Soon. He won plaudits for his debut release, “Rest Now, Weary Head! You Will Get Well Soon”, which featured the luscious track “Witches! Witches! Rest Now In The Fire” as well as a great cover of Underworld’s classic “Born Slippy Nuxx”.
Now the band has released its fourth album and comes to Rotondes on Sunday 29 May at 9 p.m. The new record, “Love”, sees Gropper reeling in his rich baritone voice to that of an understated narrator on gorgeous lead track ‘It’s Love’ (incidentally featuring the great Udo Kier in the accompanying video), and maturing as a songwriter. One critic called it like “Scott Walker singing on an Ennio Morricone score”, which sounds quite wonderful.
