Check out this exhibition of works from Iva Mrázková and Jeannot Bewing, titled “Volumes et graphisme” (volumes and graphics), conceptualised with Paul Bertemes and on display at the Galerie Schlassgoart.

Born in 1964 former Czechoslovakia, the independent professional artist Iva Mrázková settled here almost 35 years ago. “Today she has become an essential figure in Luxembourg art due to her many plastic creations, which have won numerous prizes and distinctions.” say the exhibition organisers. She has, in addition, established a cultural and diplomatic “bridge” between the Czech Republic and Luxembourg.

“The dialogue between the drawings, collages and paintings of Iva Mrázková and the sculptures of Jeannot Bewing [born in 1931 in Esch-sur-Alzette, died in 2005] seemed tempting and legitimate to us as Iva makes the translation of movement in space dominant in her pictorial practice. Often, metallic accents enhance his palette and when the gesture draws ambitious convolutions and imposing volumes we guess the three-dimensional temptations of the artist,” says the exhibition description from Nathalie Becker.

“In this current exhibition, Iva has chosen to explore an elegant and minimalist register where nature reigns supreme. The collages of certain plants collected by the artist during his wanderings, the woodcuts, the acrylics on canvas where plants proliferate reveal to us a graphic and graceful universe at the same time. The seasoned rendering of stylised shapes and volumes refers to the pieces of Jeannot Bewing. It is important to point out that the Eschois metalworker also had a look full of interest on natural and organic elements and endowed her sculptures with a lyrical and poetic scope like Iva Mrázková.”

The exhibition runs from 17 May to 6 June 2024 and is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 14:00 to 18:00. Find more information .
