En amont de l’événement Start-up Stories: Round 1 organisé par le Paperjam Club le mardi 25 février à Den Atelier, le représentant de la société iTravel, Axel Schmiegelow, partage sa vision d’entrepreneur.

Where did you get the idea for your start-up?

Axel Schmiegelow. - “We spent ten years building reservation systems for the travel industry, until we realised that everything about how that industry operates was geared towards price advantages and standardisation, whereas everything the traveller is looking for is the opposite: unique experiences and an authentic interaction with the destination. We felt deeply that we had to fix that.

What are the required qualities to launch your start-up?

“For our model to succeed, we need a unique blend of technological (software) innovation, a deep understanding of how storytelling and social media works, and a passion for our planet and the mind-opening benefits of sustainable travel.

We often hear that it is essential to make mistakes. What do you think of that?

“We have a strong team culture in which mistakes are embraced as the key to success, if and when you discuss them openly and learn from them. We are extremely data-driven and there is no good data without trial and error. It is not stupid to make mistakes, it is dumb to make them twice.”
