At a ceremony led by Steve Miller, Executive Chairman, Delphi Corporation, and Guy Hachey, President, Delphi Powertrain Systems and attended by Jeannot Krecké, Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, the new headquarters of Delphi's Powertrain division were officially opened in Luxembourg. "Delphi is in fact casting a vote of confidence for Luxembourg
as a performing business location for research-driven cutting-edge technological solutions for one of the most demanding markets, namely the automotive sector," Krecké said. Miller, a recognised "turnaround expert" said, "This is
the very first time we have put a headquarters outside of the US. This is in line with the transformation plan of the corporation we announced at the end of March last year. We are committed to Europe and to supporting our local customers and we expect to continue our track record of growth in the region." This was Miller's second visit to Luxembourg, his first was when he met and spoke with Guy Dollé, ex Arcelor CEO, in his then capacity as CEO of Bethlehem Steel Corporation.
"We chose Luxembourg for several reasons," said Hachey. "We already had a site here and there is an exceptional business environment. This is a customer-neutral area for the automotive industry. It is centrally located and it has excellent support."
