From business to business and expert to expert: We empower our intermediaries to be at their best. With its European headquarters in Luxembourg, Julius Baer’s local intermediaries team has grown steadily, demonstrating a strategic commitment to serving financial intermediaries and their clients.

What can you tell us about your team in Luxembourg?

Johan Schoenborg. —“The team has been active in Luxembourg since 2016, and we benefit from ’s long experience of more than 40 years in serving external asset managers (EAMs). I have been in the financial markets since the mid-80s, and I am grateful to have a team of seasoned bankers with a long and broad financial skill set. Their experience ranges from 21 to 40 years, which is very important given the variety of tasks we undertake to support EAMs and their clients. Our claim to be a European headquarters is also truly reflected in our diverse group of 5 nationalities speaking 9 different languages.”

Which type of External Asset Managers would be a natural fit?

“We work with a range of companies, from early-stage start-ups to mature global EAMs. The common denominator – apart from the fact that they are all licensed – is their predominantly European/EEA customer base. Although these are quite similar, it is interesting to observe how different the needs and requirements can be. So the team makes an extra effort to provide each EAM with a tailored service that meets their needs, requirements, and cultural background.”

Can you please elaborate on the digital offering?

“For EAMs that use state-of-the-art portfolio management providers, we can offer fixed connection, which means that the EAM uses its own system that is directly connected to the bank’s system for trade execution between its Portfolio Management System (PMS) provider and Bank Julius Baer’s trading platform. This allows them to execute orders directly in real time and without any manual intervention. FIX Connectivity is a fully scalable solution that can handle large volumes and a number of transactions simultaneously.

We also offer a dedicated PM system for the EAM called BaerOnline. All accounts can be accessed via BaerOnline and it provides the EAM with the ability to place trades, generate reports, track correspondence history, project future cash flows on both, transaction and performance history and so on. BaerOnline also provides access to our comprehensive in-house research platform.

In addition, our FX toolbox provides quick and easy access to over 150 currency pairs for executing spot, forward and swap transactions. The EAM can also use it to meet its derivatives needs for vanilla, single barrier options, ACDC and TARFs on over 40 currency pairs. And with the Derivative Toolbox, the EAM can design attractive products that meet their clients’ return expectations and risk appetite across a broad range of instruments.”

Can you please explain why an EAM should choose Bank Julius Baer Europe?

“Greater flexibility, greater efficiency and with this a competitive advantage. Our business offering includes solutions that focus on the different needs of EAMs according to their specific situation and business requirements. All this from the leading Swiss wealth management group, combined with a strong foothold in the Luxembourg market, makes us an attractive partner.”
