. —“Ariane, you were part of the team who opened the office back in 2013. Together with Alex, we were leaving a Benelux law firm for an international firm. What was your main motivation?”
. – “An office launch is an exciting adventure where one can shape and contribute to the future of a new office, team and environment. It may be challenging at some stages and elements need to be built from scratch, but it was also very tempting to go back to the big leagues with a truly global network (over 45 offices). It is not the size, but the global reach, the cross-border, cross-practice nature of the matters, the complexity and legal technicity of the work for high profile clients, that were some of the main motivators. I assume, Alex, it was the same for you?”
. —“Yes, indeed. The level of quality required is very high, and it’s always rewarding to be challenged and challenge oneself every day. Another reason, which was also important in my decision to join the founding team like you in 2013, is the core values of Hogan Lovells. This includes providing excellent, responsive, and innovative legal advice and services to our clients, as well as being part of an integrated team across our entire firm worldwide. Working together in an atmosphere of mutual respect, collegiality, and friendliness is essential. We are truly one team, globally.”
. — “Absolutely. However, I guess that the reasons to join a firm like Hogan Lovells today are different than back then. For the new generation, having an inclusive, flexible and collegial working environment is a must-have. Hence, these are nowadays key elements for talent acquisition and retention in a lot of industries, ours included. Of course, we have people joining and leaving the firm, but the average length of service is roughly six years – which is a great achievement in a business where the average turnover is much higher.”
. — “Indeed, we can’t achieve anything alone. It’s all about people: our team, lawyers and business services alike, who we all agree are amazing, and our clients, with whom we are privileged to have a true partnership. It is more than ever, and even more so in Luxembourg, a people’s business. Obviously, this has to be paired with high-quality and tailor-made advice, as well as strong long-term dedication to our clients.”
. — “And the common ground between values and people is the way we commit to responsible and sustainable charitable initiatives, like our partnership over the years with Dress For Success or Art2Cure. Other examples are: welcoming amongst us a trainee from Ligue HMC (who supports social and professional inclusion of mentally disabled people); or leading fundraisings for MSF and for Relais pour la Vie, just to name a few.»
. — “This is very true and we see how our team has been dedicated to these causes over the years. Incentivising citizenship and pro-bono work has obviously also helped, and contributed as well to making a difference. Looking back, I haven’t seen the 10 years fly by. I guess I didn’t realise the ground that we have covered together until I was promoted to partnership last January – the moment I joined the dark side, haha!”
, and . — “Very happy to welcome you.”
. — “Thanks guys. More seriously, it’s a new episode in our journey. Our mission now is to further grow the business for the next generation of our talented lawyers. The story has just begun!”
