According to UNESCO, plastic waste makes up 80% of all marine pollution and around 8 to 10 million metric tons of plastic end up in the ocean each year.
This July, , the social media network for sustainability, headquartered in Luxembourg, and Plastic Free July, a worldwide movement, have joined forces to inspire people to be a part of the plastic pollution solution.
Plastic Free July is an award-winning campaign that offers ideas and resources to help people across the globe reduce single-use plastic waste in their everyday lives. With 100+ million participants in 190 countries, the movement has inspired participants to make a small change that collectively makes a massive difference to their communities. Established by Plastic Free Foundation, the not-for-profit stops approximately kg 300 million of plastic polluting the environment annually.
The partnership will allow participants of both platforms to cross-pollinate ideas and share their progress, challenges, tips, photos and videos of how they are reducing plastic waste. Participants have the opportunity to connect and establish relationships with like-minded individuals globally. Both organisations believe in the power of people to drive positive change. Therefore, the partnership seeks to bring about collective action in our fight against the global plastic issue – in the water and on land.
