A Luxembourg-based start-up is creating a social media platform with a focus on sustainability.

For the second year in a row, the world is no longer making progress on the Sustainable Development Goals by the United Nations, and simultaneously, climate change is the largest, most pervasive threat to the natural environment and societies the world has ever experienced. Battling sustainability issues will require both legislative and social change on all levels, and everyone will need to get involved.

Coincidentally, social media has been one of the most powerful tools in the last decades in bringing people together. But, unfortunately trust in social media is at an all-time low with continuous privacy and data scandals, coupled with flawed and unsustainable business models.

Greenworlder wants to build a social media platform that provides you with a path to sustainable living that brings together sustainability conscious people and businesses who want to be part of a change. “We want to redefine digital advertising, rethink privacy and customer data, and with a real user centric approach we want to become a trusted platform for both people and businesses around the topic of sustainability,” says founder Peter Bartholin.

It certainly seems the time is right for this initiative. Earlier this year, Greenworlder conducted an extensive market survey which showed that over 60% of people are interested in a social media platform with a clear focus on sustainability.

Urban Gillström, current CEO and founder says: “We want to support a transparent conversation around the topic, increase knowledge by interesting and meaningful content in a positive manner, and spread inspiration within the community.”

Gillström, who has an extensive experience working in the IT industry as well as within digital advertising, continues: “Despite the heavy and sometimes very dark topic, we want to focus on the good and bring the focus on how every small step counts, especially when taken by many.”

The company certainly seems to be on the right path. A few months ago they closed a €1M funding round and the feedback from investors has been overwhelmingly positive says Gillström and Bartholin.

“We seem to be resonating with both the people we are talking to and the businesses we are meeting. They are ready for a change, and we want to lead the way,” says Bartholin. Greenworlder has already opened up the next funding round which they are looking to close within the next few months.

Greenworlder are set to launch next year and have very ambitious growth plans in 2023. The team is currently working hard on the development as well as preparing various marketing campaigns. They have also already signed up some big businesses which will be joining the platform from the start.

“We’ve already closed a few major contracts with some large businesses who want to lead the way when it comes to engaging around sustainability. It’s a testament to us not only doing things right. We are doing the right things,” says Daniel Klemetz who is heading up strategy and partnerships at Greenworlder.
