A special guest was present at the latest Delano Live. Philip Crowther, an international news reporter with a worldwide reputation thanks to his mastery of six living languages, spoke about multilingualism and multiculturalism in front of more than 200 people.

May’s Delano Live event at Zulu Blanc in Rives de Clausen was preceded by a private chat between Philip Crowther and Prolingua’s Naouelle Tir exclusively for guests of the language school.

The main event saw Delano’s Duncan Roberts renew his acquaintance with Philip, who had done a brief internship under Duncan’s stewardship 20 years ago.

On stage, Duncan asked about Philip’s education in the Luxembourg public school system – which resulted in Philip speaking several languages by the time he graduated – as well as his later choice to go into broadcast media rather than written journalism.

They chatted about Philip’s ability to switch between six languages during a day of reporting for the different broadcasters who use the services of Associated Press Global Media Services.

Eloquent and witty, with that essential element of self-deprecation, Philip also talked about his experiences in Washington and particularly as a White House correspondent during the Trump administration. But he also addressed the challenges involved in reporting from Ukraine, and particularly the critical importance of getting facts correct before going on air during the war.

The event, sponsored by ING and Prolingua and organised by the Paperjam + Delano Club, was attended by over 200 guests.

The next Delano Live event is scheduled for 14 July and coincides with the release of the annual Expat Guide publication. It will take the form of a Luxembourg-based quiz featuring two teams of local personalities.

We would like to thank and for their support during this event.
