LONDON, UK. – February 23, 2010 – iPass® Inc. (NASDAQ: IPAS), a leading provider of enterprise mobility services, today announced a significant expansion of its European Wi-Fi footprint through a partnership with Luxembourg’s HotCity network. Hot City’s 300 access points have been integrated into the iPass Mobile Network service and are now available to over 3,500 iPass enterprise customers globally.
The HotCity network is an initiative of the City of Luxembourg to build Europe’s most advanced municipal Wi-Fi network and provides seamless coverage across the city’s 50 square kilometers area. It has been designed as an open platform to host a range of localized services and high quality content including city authority information and municipal services, neighbourhood community groups and secure networks for closed user groups. Luxembourg’s major travel hubs – including the railway station and Luxembourg International Airport – are covered by the network, giving business travelers simple, cost effective and secure connectivity when travelling to and from the city. HotCity expect their network to grow to over 500 hotspots by the end of 2010.
“The HotCity initiative is an incredibly ambitious and exciting project that really reinforces the important role of municipal Wi-Fi connectivity in creating more closely connected business and social communities,” said René Hendrikse, vice president, EMEA at iPass. “The iPass Mobile Network service is already the world’s largest, encompassing over 140,000 hotspots, and this partnership with HotCity ensures that our customers will be well catered for in Luxembourg.”
"Luxembourg HotCity is widely considered to be the most successful municipal Wi-Fi network in Europe and we are committed to bringing the highest quality wireless Internet to our customers and roaming partners,” said Pit David, CEO, HotCity. Frank Dhur, managing director for HotCity added: “Our partnership with iPass will allow their customers coming to Luxembourg to get the high-speed, reliable Internet access they are used to - no matter where they are, be it coffee shops, train stations, hotels or the airport."
iPass customers can access the iPass Mobile Network service from a broad range of devices including Windows and Apple PCs as well as Blackberry, iPhone, Symbian and Windows Mobile smartphones.
