, the impact tech start-up building the social media of the next generation has joined forces with the trailblazing initiative Digital Cleanup Day to tackle digital waste.
Each year, the internet and its supporting systems produce more than 900 million tons of CO2. Global energy-related CO2 emissions grew in 2022 by 0.9%, reaching a new high of more than 36.8 billion tonnes. Digital Cleanup Day’s website shares that internet use accounts for 3.7 percent of worldwide carbon emissions, equivalent to all air traffic in the world.
Digital Cleanup Day is an annual initiative, which took place this year on March 16th, that encourages businesses and people to organize and declutter their digital lives. Individuals are invited to clean up their digital devices, such as their data storage, tablets, smartphones, and computers. This can involve organizing folders and emails, deleting unnecessary or duplicate files, and uninstalling unused applications.
The ultimate goal of the day is to empower organizations and individuals to become more productive, efficient, and secure in their digital lives.
The partnership will see Greenworlder create a dedicated group for the initiative on its platform. This group will have exciting challenges and activities for members to tackle their digital waste while having fun.
