Ageing diseases related to the brain, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, are a global health, economic and social emergency with the numbers of patients affected expected to double by 2030 and more than triple by 2050. Unfortunately, researchers who dedicate their lives to finding a cure for these diseases often don’t receive the funding that they need to carry out research on the highest level.
The fight against disease, disability and their social consequences is part of the DNA of Hogan Lovells. As such, we cannot be indifferent to Art2Cure’s amazing initiative aiming at supporting the research to cure the Parkinson’s disease. These are the great causes Hogan Lovells wants to contribute to: help Art2Cure to grow, to gain in visibility and, at the end of the day, to earn more money for their commendable purpose.
This first international edition of Art2Cure is supporting an important transatlantic research collaboration in the field of Parkinson’s research. The funds raised during this event will support a Parkinson’s disease study carried by Prof. Serge Przedboski’s laboratory at Columbia University in partnership with Prof. Rejko Krüger’s laboratory at the University of Luxembourg. Philippe Lamesch, vice-President of Art2Cure, explains: “We strongly believe that bringing together researchers from different backgrounds with complementary sets of expertise, such as in the case of Columbia and Luxembourg Universities, their biomedical research can be accelerated and the path towards a cure be shortened. We are glad to be able to contribute to this important partnership through the funds raised during the Art2Cure exhibition.”
Long-term commitment of Art2Cure, both to offer an international visibility of Luxembourg artists and to raise funds for the brain research against neurodegenerative diseases has begun in 2014 when Gilles Weidig, Leslie Barnig, Philippe Lamesch and Fabienne Weidig founded the organisation.
