Romanian blouses in Luxembourg

Paperjam.lu

Many high-end designers like Karl Lagerfeld, Tom Ford and John Galliano have copied the style of the Romanian blouse, but fashionistas can find out the true history at this gathering.

Romanians around the world will be celebrating IA, the day where they can proudly wear Romanian blouses and tell their stories.

The tradition began in 2013, when more than 24,000 people, in 50 countries and across 6 continents participated in the day of the Romanian blouse (IA), an important item of clothing within the traditional folk costume worn by women.

Women wore their IAs and posted pictures online and on social media. Now, June 24 is celebrated annually as the day of the Romanian Blouse and IAs have been celebrated consecutively for the last 5 years in Luxembourg.

Join Romanians in Luxembourg at this year's gathering in Place Clairefontaine where you can learn more about the tradition and meet knew people.

Every blouse is made manually, and can take between 3 weeks and 3 months to make. Blouses are typically made during the winter season so women can show off their new creations during the Easter celebrations. IA designs tend to reflect the differences in age, social status and life events. The structure of the Romanian blouse has remained unchanged over the centuries, preserving their originality.
