Pillow fight for good cause

Paperjam.lu

If you’ve been itching to get in a pillow fight, now’s your chance: on 2 September, a giant public pillow fight will take place to support the battle against Parkinson’s disease.

Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative motor disorder which can include a number of symptoms, including impaired balance and coordination, trembling and muscle stiffness. Diagnosis can be tricky, given that it’s only possible after a patient experiences some of the symptoms. Although scientists--including local ones--are making strides in the research, there is currently no cure for Parkinson’s disease.

All proceeds from the pillow fight go to the National Centre of Excellence in Research on Parkinson’s Disease.

All--including corporate teams--are welcome to join in the fun. Soft pillows are allowed and costumes (or pyjamas) are encouraged, but organisers ask that participants take care to remove glasses or jewellery beforehand, and that pillows do not have any zippers or buttons to ensure that nobody gets hurt. Feathers are also forbidden.

The event kicks off at 11am when the stands open and a 100m Baamkuch (cake) will be presented by the Rotary Foundation, celebrating its centennary.

Welcome speeches begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by a “VIP pillow fight” at 11:50 a.m., lunch, and then the rounds of pillow fighting begin, with a family pillow fight (2 p.m.), two rounds of open pillow fights for all ages (3 p.m. and 4 p.m.), and finally the final battle at 5 p.m.
