Music against female genital mutilation

 Fondation Follereau

Fondation Follereau

To make a stand against against female genital mutilation (FMG), Luxembourg campaign group Fondation Follereau is hosting Expression Against Excision, an awareness-raising concert featuring artists Inna Modja and Modestine Ekete.

More than 200 million girls and women around the world are affected by FMG, a cultural practice which impacts them sexually, physically and psychologically.

Born in Mali, singer Inna Modja herself underwent circumcision at the age of five. Today she uses music to raise awareness about the harmful consequences of the practice.

Fondation Follereau is implementing two projects to combat the practice of FMG in Mali, where 89% of girls and women aged 15 to 49 are circumcised and Burkina Faso where 76% of women and girls are concerned.

The projects carry out awareness-raising work with opinion leaders and schools, to talk about the dangers.

The asbl also helps women suffering from the after-effects enabling them to benefit from surgical repair.

All proceeds from this concert will go towards the Fondation Follereau’s projects against FMG.
