How did the festival come about?
The idea of the festival originated from a group of young people actively volunteering in different events in Luxembourg such as Food for your Senses, Nuits des Lampions or Dudelange on wheels. We wanted to unite people through art and culture in this unique place of the Slate Museum Haut-Martelange.
What kind of bands and artists will perform?
The festival line-up is very diverse and ranges from classic indie-rock concerts to magic shows and street art performances. Some of our headliners include indie alternative Declan McKenna (UK), Birth of Joy (NL), Bartelby Delicate (LU), Siegfried & Joy (DE) and Mario and comedy circus act Queen of the Circus (AUS).
The website describes the festival as something for all the family—can you expand on this a little further?
The weekend programme provides activities for younger and less young people. In the afternoon, visitors can watch magic shows, circus and comedy. They can also explore the history of the site in a playful way by taking a tour with the industrial train or by going down into the ancient slate mine.
A special area has been designed for kids, where little ones can participate in many themed workshops and activities during the weekend. As from the afternoon – and until late at night – the music programme takes over the festival so that fans of rock and pop have their proper place.
What sets this festival apart from other festivals in Luxembourg?
Above all, it is this unique area and the specific activities related to it which sets the festival apart from others. The festival promotes the discovery of the cultural heritage of the region and supports reasonable consumption by showcasing local producers on the market and through different product tastings an all this, while listening to talented musicians all over the weekend.
