Introduction to the new ISO 22301 standard

Paperjam.lu

Lately, companies have become more and more demanding, with globalised operations, tougher competition, increased market volatility, and unprecedented sources of environmental, geopolitical, economic and technological uncertainty.

In this framework, organisations should certainly manage known risks and make sure they are aware of their main vulnerabilities and single points of failure.

But even more importantly, organisations should be adequately prepared to deal with disruptions when they actually occur and put the business at stake.

This is what Business Continuity Management (BCM) is all about: a holistic process which identifies potential threats to an organisation and the impacts on business operations that those threats might cause; it provides a framework for building organisational resilience with the capability for an effective response that safeguards the interests of key stakeholders, reputation, brand and value-creating activities.

The ISO 22301:2012 standard was introduced in May 2012.

This International Standard specifies requirements for setting up and managing an effective Business Continuity Management System (BCMS).
