Hear Space Odyssey live

The Philharmonie and Cinémathèque team up to present a live cinema spectacle to conquer them all.

Perhaps the most eagerly anticipated live cinema event of the season, a screening of “2001: A Space Odyssey” sees the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg and the WDR Rundfunkchor Köln conducted by Frank Strobel perform the score to Stanley Kubrick’s science fiction masterpiece.

The music includes the famous “Blue Danube Waltz” by Johann Strauss and “Also sprach Zarathustra” by Richard Strauss.

The film, inspired by a short story by science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke, has long been considered a classic of the genre. However, as the brilliant Roger Ebert put it, “Alone among science-fiction movies, '2001' is not concerned with thrilling us, but with inspiring our awe.”

There are two opportunities to catch what promises to be a magnificent spectacle.
