Hear indie pioneers

Paperjam.lu

The Wedding Present is a name that brings back memories of 1986, the new indie movement, jangly guitars and perfect pop songs.

The Wedding Present were the true pioneers of the movement that became known, briefly, as C86 (after a compilation tape given away with the then still relevant NME). The music played by these bands was labelled “shambling” by John Peel, who was an early champion of The Wedding Present in particular.

Some 30 years later, and still fronted by songwriter David Gedge, the band returns to Luxembourg (they played a memorably sweaty gig to open the now defunct d:qliq in 2007) to promote new album “Going, Going...” An experiment in multimedia formatting, the album is a collection of 20 linked songs each accompanied by a film.

Support comes from one of the best new local bands around, Autumn Sweater.
