Cricket: Hoggard to celebrate with Optimists

Former England international cricketer Matthew Hoggard is the guest of honour at Optimists Cricket Club’s Annual Awards Dinner on Saturday 19 January.

Optimists founded just over 40 years ago, will celebrate one of their most successful seasons at the dinner. The 1st XI won the Belgian Cricket Federation League 2, the 2nd XI won their pool in League 5 and the Club also won the Belgian T20 competition for the first time.

Hoggard will be giving a speech and answering questions from the audience afterwards as well as the presenting the various awards to the winners. He was a successful bowler for both Yorkshire and Leicestershire and played in 67 test matches for England. One of his career highlight was taking 12 wickets for 205 runs against South Africa in Johannesburg in January 2005.

A raffle will be held with first prize being two tickets to Lords Cricket Ground in London to watch a World Cup match between South Africa vs Pakistan in June 2019.  

All profits will be going to Tricentenaire ASBL in Walferdange. The Tricentenarie work hard to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities in Luxembourg.
