Presentation – Panel Discussion – Networking Dinner

In the presence of the Minister of Finance of Luxembourg, Pierre Gramegna.

Brics is the acronym for an association of five major emerging national economies: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Originally the first four were grouped as ‘BRIC’ (or ‘the BRICs’), before the induction of South Africa in 2010. The Brics members are all leading developing or newly industralised countries, but they are distinguished by their large, sometimes fast-growing economies and significant influence on regional affairs.

As of 2015, the five Brics countries represent half of the world population and have a combined nominal GDP equivalent to approximately 22% of the gross world product.

The New Development Bank (NDB), formerly referred to as the Brics Development Bank, is a multilateral development bank operated by the Brics states. The bank’s primary focus of lending will be infrastructure projects with authorised lending of up to $34 billion annually.

This seminar aims at bringing insight into the New Development Bank and how Luxembourg can support and take advantage of banking with Brics.
