In cooperation with DICA-lab (University of Luxembourg), new Luxembourg start-up “The Loupe” developed an innovative App to support language learning by multilingual children. The App is a multilingual e-book “Little Red Riding Hood”, which could be a nice and useful Chrismas present for children, especially in multilingual Luxembourg.
The unique feature of the app is the possibility to switch languages while reading. This is not an ordinary book. On the one hand, this is an original artistic expression in pictures with a lot of animation effects and music. On the other hand - different possibilities of language combination and modes of reading and listening. Languages: English, German, French, Russian.
“Reading - alone and together with parents and siblings - is a stimulating and enriching activity, which brings a lot of pleasure and supports language learning. This multilingual app offers innovative ways for multilingual language learning, in accordance with latest scientific findings based on application testing with young readers and their parents” - says Charles MAX, professor for learning and working with new technologies at SNT (University of Luxembourg).
Company “The Loupe” which develops media tools for intercultural purpose has been created 2012 by Tetyana Karpenko - an experienced journalist in TV and Radio production, as well as in print and new media with additional university degree in communication, development and learning in multilingual and multicultural context. The project has been supported by „Luxembourg Pionnières- l’incubation au féminin“ - program for female entrepreneurs.
The book has been created in cooperation with DICA-lab of the University of Luxembourg, which conducts research on learning and development in multilingual contexts and new technologies at Interdisciplinary Centre for Security and Trust (University of Luxembourg), together with multi-LEARN Institute for Interaction and Development in Diversity a.s.b.l. Technical realisation - company «FounDreams», which develops educational and entertaining applications and plays for children and their parents.
"This multilingual reading, playing and learning app triggers children´s curiosity and adapts itself to the individual exploration speed. Youngest readers can watch their favourite place over and over again, voice and language change brings additional diversity and teaches phonological awareness as well as the interaction sequence in small steps, supported by an innovative medium” - says Gudrun Ziegler, Professor of Multilingualism at DICA-lab.
